In December, we began noticing that we were getting bitten. We were getting ready to move to Alabama, so we weren't giving it much thought. When we were settled in Alabama, we were noticing we were getting bitten more often. The cats weren't acting like they had fleas, so we ruled that out. John found one or two odd looking bugs, but we weren't sure what they were.
The wedding was upon us in no time, so we headed back to California. It was there that it was suggested we had bed bugs. John googled bed bugs and saw a picture that resembled the odd looking bugs he had found earlier. We couldn't do much about the issue from California, so put it out of our minds until we came home.
We informed the apartment manager about our infestation. She wanted to use their exterminator. He came out the next day to evaluate our infestation. He told us he couldn't find any evidence of bed bugs and suggested we wash all our blankets and sheets in hot water. He placed down some bug traps, just in case.
The next morning, we found less bites. However, it wasn't long before we were noticing many more bites. Over this past weekend, John found a bed bug stuck in one of the traps. Last night, he found one crawling on the bed and stuck it to a piece of paper to show the exterminator. This morning, John called the apartment manager to get the exterminator back out here. She informed us that the cats won't be able to stay at the apartment while they spray. We aren't sure whether or not we're allowed in the apartment while they spray...or how long we'll need to stay away after they spray. The manager was supposed to call John back today with more details. We're still waiting for that call.
We read that bed bugs are nearly impossible to get rid of, without purchasing a new mattress. However, our mattress is only two years old. We really need to spare the expense of a new mattress. We're hoping the infestation is small enough that two or three treatments will be enough to get rid of them.
